How We Got Started

Ray Delgado grew up in Oildale and started sanding floors with his father in 1994, mostly in the old worker cottages north of the Kern River. Those houses taught him the two things this trade actually runs on: the wood under a hundred-year-old floor is usually better than anything you can buy new, and almost nobody takes the time to find out.

He opened this company in 2006 with one truck and a drum sander he still owns. We've finished more than 4,100 floors since — bungalows in Oleander-Sunset, ranch homes in Campus Park, new builds out in Seven Oaks and Rosedale, restaurants and offices downtown, and a fair number of mountain houses up in Tehachapi where the whole problem flips from desert-dry to snow.

The company grew, but not the way most do. We never added a sales department and we never started subcontracting installs. If you meet somebody from this company, they work here.

What We're Here to Do

Give people a straight answer about their floor. That sounds small until you've had three contractors tell you three different things about the same room.

In practice it means we measure before we quote, we run a moisture test on every slab, and we tell you when a $2 screen-and-recoat will do what you were about to spend $5 a foot on. Roughly one in five floors we get called out to refinish doesn't need a full sand yet. Saying so costs us money on that job and earns the next three.

Every quote is itemized. Prep, repair, material, labor, and finish get their own line, so you can see what you're buying and cut something if the number is too high. No lump sums, no "misc. materials," no change order on day three for something we should have caught on day one.
